Why You Don’t Need to Live in a Big City to Build a Big Brand

If someone told me years ago that I would one day be packing luxury sleepwear orders from regional Western Australia and sending them across Australia and even overseas - I probably wouldn’t have believed them.

Like many people, I used to think successful brands had to come from big cities. Sydney. Melbourne. New York. Places where everything feels bigger, faster and more connected.

But building The Vow Sleepwear from Margaret River has taught me something completely different.

You really can build something globally loved from anywhere now.

Starting Small

The Vow didn’t begin in a glamorous office or with a huge team behind it. It started with an idea, a laptop, a lot of late nights and a dream to create something women would genuinely feel beautiful wearing.

Living regionally can sometimes make you feel like you’re behind everyone else. Opportunities can feel further away and there’s often this idea that “real” businesses are built in bigger cities.

But social media changed everything.

Suddenly, it didn’t matter where you lived. If your brand connected with people, they found you.

One video, one photo or one customer sharing their order online could reach thousands of women instantly.

Building a Brand From Margaret River

There’s actually something really special about building a brand in a regional town.

Margaret River has this beautiful slower lifestyle that has shaped so much of The Vow. The cosy mornings, beachside weekends, coffee runs, girls’ weekends and appreciation for comfort and lifestyle - all of that naturally became part of the brand.

Even now, there are moments where I’ll be packing orders while looking out at the trees, knowing those same pyjamas are about to arrive in major cities around the world. That feeling honestly never gets old.

The Power of Community

One thing I’ll never underestimate is the power of community support.

So much of TVS has grown through women supporting women. Customers sharing photos. Local people telling their friends. Brides recommending us to bridesmaids.

When you build a brand regionally, you really feel every order and every kind message.

Behind every package is a real person who chose to support your dream, and I never take that for granted.

Social Media Has Changed Business Forever

I think one of the biggest shifts in business is that people care less about where a brand is located and more about connection.

Customers want to feel something. They want authenticity, personality and brands with heart behind them.

For me, that has always been important with TVS. I’ve never wanted it to feel overly corporate or untouchable. I want women to feel like there’s a real person behind the brand - because there is.

A Reminder for Anyone Starting Small

If there’s one thing building TVS has taught me, it’s that you don’t need to wait for the “perfect” location, timing or setup to start something meaningful.

You don’t need a city postcode to build a beautiful brand.

Sometimes all you need is an idea, consistency, community and the willingness to keep showing up.

THE Vow Sleepwear is proof that beautiful thin

gs really can be built anywhere. 🤍
